What an automotive ceramic coating is

A ceramic coating is a liquid-applied protective product designed to cure on a prepared vehicle surface. Products differ in chemistry, application method, curing conditions and claimed durability, so the manufacturer instructions for the selected coating are essential.

Step 1: inspect the vehicle

Paint condition, previous protection, contamination and defects are assessed. A coating does not repair scratches and can make an uncorrected finish easier to see.

Step 2: clean and decontaminate

The surface is washed and bonded contamination is removed. Clay treatment is used only when required because it can introduce marring that then needs polishing.

Step 3: polish where needed

Step 6: cure
