What ceramic protection is
Automotive ceramic coatings are liquid-applied protective products designed to bond to a correctly prepared surface. They can improve water behaviour, gloss and resistance to some environmental contamination, but they do not make paint scratch-proof, stone-chip-proof or maintenance-free.
Why preparation determines the result
A coating follows the condition of the surface below it. Safe washing, tar and iron removal, clay treatment where appropriate, paint inspection and a panel wipe are used to remove contamination. If swirl marks or haze would remain visible, machine polishing or paint correction may be recommended before coating. Read the complete preparation guide for the full step-by-step process.
Ceramic protection process at WK Detailing
The normal sequence is vehicle assessment, safe wash, chemical decontamination, mechanical decontamination only where needed, paint inspection, polishing matched to the paint condition, residue removal, coating application and controlled curing according to the selected product instructions.
Ceramic coating, sealant and wax are not the same
Wax and sealants can provide useful shorter-term protection with lower preparation and cost. A ceramic coating is normally selected for longer-term protection and easier routine cleaning, but it requires more careful preparation and aftercare. Read the ceramic protection vs wax guide for a practical comparison.
What ceramic protection can and cannot do
A suitable coating can make routine washing easier and can help reduce how strongly some dirt and water adhere. It cannot stop impact damage, eliminate water spotting, prevent every wash mark or repair existing scratches. The finish still needs safe washing and periodic inspection.
How long the protection lasts
Durability varies with product, preparation, number of layers, mileage, outdoor exposure, wash chemicals and maintenance. Loss of water beading alone does not always prove that the coating has failed because mineral deposits and traffic film can temporarily reduce surface behaviour. See how long ceramic coating lasts.
Maintenance after application
Use safe wash methods, clean wash media and suitable shampoos. Avoid automatic brush washes and aggressive cleaning products not intended for coated paint. Remove bird droppings and mineral deposits promptly and arrange a maintenance wash when contamination affects the surface.
Ceramic protection in Stratford
WK Detailing is based on Birmingham Road, Stratford upon Avon. Quotations are based on vehicle size, paint condition, required correction and the selected protection. Clear photographs help with an initial assessment, but the paint may need inspection before the final recommendation.
